Upper Ojai Real Estate - Country Living



Upper Ojai is located along highway 150, (Ojai Santa Paula Road) between the City of Ojai and Santa Paula. Upper Ojai is a rural community where homes sit on acreage from 1 to 40 acres. Once you leave the City of Ojai you will climb high up into the hills on what is known as the Dennison Grade.

When you reach the top there is a place to stop and look back out over the grandeur of the Ojai Valley.

Only a "hand full" of homes sell in this area each year. Residents here say that once you experience the beauty, tranquility and majesty of the area you just never want to move.

Upper Ojai is home to the Happy Valley School which is a private boarding school for grades 9 to 12. "Happy Valley offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for grades 9 through 12. Based on the Socratic method of teaching, classes are facilitated by generating questions, which arouses a sense of inquiry and interest, and encourages students to develop logical assessment skills for problem-solving.

Another famous institution that can be found in Upper Ojai is The Ojai Foundation. This is a place where people come together in a beautiful country setting to study, learn and interact with each other. "The Mission of The Ojai Foundation is to strengthen individuals, families and communities by teaching ways to listen and speak from the heart, to honor life's passages and to appreciate our connection with nature -- supporting the emergence of a compassionate, sustainable and peaceful world."

Larry Hagman, the famous actor form the TV series Dallas lives in Upper Ojai in a place called "Heaven." It is said that his home commands one of the most spectacular views in all of Ventura County. Larry is a great guy and is always helping out with community and charitable events.

Upper Ojai is a way of life. You move here because you like to be out in nature surrounded by beautiful mountains and wildlife.

From January 2007 to May 2008 there were only 10 homes that sold in Upper Ojai with an average sales price being $2,075,699 and a median price being $1,649,500. That's not to say you are not going to occationally find something priced under $1,000,000, but that the exception, not the rule.
Occasionally there are medium to large tracks of land that come available which are suitable for building a home.
